Hanqi Feng's research on terahertz radiation generation based on the interaction between free electrons and plasma has been published in the journal Advanced Photonics Nexus

Terahertz radiation with broad application prospects has attracted great attention and researchers are seeking different methods for terahertz source. The scheme based on electron beam pulse trains can produce terahertz radiation with narrow bandwidth, high brightness, high peak power, and high repetition rate. Precise control of the electron beam is particularly important in this method, and increasing the bunching factor of the electron beam pulse trains can greatly enhance the energy output of the terahertz radiation. A scheme that utilizes plasma wakefield modulation of the electron beam to generate pulse trains can introduce a sawtooth energy modulation while maintaining the beam quality of the electron beam. This paper proposes a new scheme using two bunches for modulation to enhance radiation energy, achieving a bunching factor as high as 0.94 and thus further improving energy utilization.

This work, titled Enhanced Terahertz Generation via Plasma Modulation on Two Bunches, was published in July 2024 in the journal Advanced Photonics Nexus (DOI:10.1117/1.APN.3.4.046014). The journal is jointly published by the Chinese Laser Press (CLP) and the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE), focusing on high-quality original papers, letters, and review articles in innovative and pioneering fields. Postdoctoral researcher Hanqi Feng is the first author of the paper, and Professor Fang Liu and Professor Yidong Huang are the corresponding authors.
