Prof. Yidong Huang hosted the Forum on Electronic Information Science and Technology Donna Strickland: "From Nonlinear Optics to Intensity Laser Physics"

On the evening of July 15, Prof. Yidong Huang hosted the Forum on Electronic Information Science and Technology. This forum invited Prof. Donna Strickland, 2018 Nobel Laureate in Physics, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Waterloo, Canada, to deliver an online presentation titled "From Nonlinear Optics to High Power Laser Physics".

Professor Donna Strickland is only the third woman in history to win the Nobel Prize in Physics. She served as President of the Optical Society of America (OSA) in 2013 and is a Fellow of the OSA, SPIE, the Royal Society of Canada and the Royal Society of the United Kingdom. She is also an Honorary Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Physics, a Foreign Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and a recipient of the Order of Canada. In her presentation, Prof. Donna Strickland gave a detailed description of the Nobel Prize-winning Chirped Pulse Amplification (CPA). CPA can increase the intensity of laser pulses by several orders of magnitude, facilitating the emergence of a new type of laser-matter interaction. After that, Prof. Donna Strickland answered the participants' questions with enthusiasm and detail.

The Forum on Electronic Information Science and Technology is a series of activities organized by the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University, aiming at establishing a world-class academic exchange platform in the field of electronic and information, and expanding the academic vision of teachers and students. More than 90 people attended the forum online and nearly 500 people watched the live broadcast.
