The mid-term report meeting for the core optical fiber network construction of the Integrated Quantum Network Testbed was successfully held

The mid-term report meeting for the core optical fiber network construction of the Integrated Quantum Network Testbed was successfully held on the ROHM Building in Tsinghua University at January 12, 2025. Professor Wei Zhang presented the progress of the core optical fiber network construction. During the presentation, the management platform for the core optical fiber network was demonstrated, and the quantum applications operated or planned on the network were introduced, including entanglement-based Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and its protection switching in the network, metropolitan quantum secure direct communication, quantum signal transmission between optical interfaces of superconducting qubits, as well as the prospect for the development of quantum communication in aerospace technology. After the presentation, attendees, including leaders and experts, toured the network node and terminal node of the network located in the ROHM Building. During the discussion session, the experts provided positive remarks on the progress of the project, offering valuable comments and suggestions.

The Integrated Quantum Network Testbed is a project jointly supported by the Beijing Academy of Quantum Information Science and Tsinghua University. Its motivation is to establish a multi-scale experimental quantum network that integrates long-distance optical fibers, short-distance access networks, and satellite/free-space quantum channels. This project aims to explore methods and architectures for high-performance distribution of quantum resources. Based on the allocation and sharing of quantum resources within the quantum network, the project will investigate the implementation and management of various applications of quantum communication, quantum computing, and quantum sensing in a quantum network infrastructure, while also developing crucial devices and equipment for quantum networks.
